Capturing your baby during their first year is every parent’s obsession. Whether you carefully plan the shots and shoot month by month, or it’s just taken on the day and in the moment, here are our tips for capturing your little bub as they grow from a tiny little one into a cheeky little monkey!
No. 01 | Take your photos at the same time of day
If you are taking the photos on your nursery chair or play mat, then pop it by the window and take the photos at the same time of day so you get consistent(ish) light.
No. 02 | Create engagement
Newborn and family photographer Kelly Jordan says “Hold your phone next to your face so when you take your photo, your bub is looking into the lens. The same goes for if you are using a dslr, pop it on autofocus, hold the camera up to your face, and snap away.”
No. 03 | Be snap happy!
All photographers take lots of photos to get the final selection that are breathtaking. So take a leaf out of their book and snap away!
No. 04 | Get their attention
Use rattles, toys or anything to get your bub’s attention. As above, if you hold the rattle close to your face then there is more chance you’ll capture your baby looking into the lens.
No. 05 | Use the same lightroom preset

No. 06 | Colour Scheme
Consider what you dress your baby in. Think neutral tones, like taupe, oatmeal and grey, or keep it clean with crisp white. You can by all means mix it up, but make sure that you don’t have anything too jarring as it will stand out when you put all of your beautiful photos of your baby together.
